Carmona Spain

«««Europe» Spain» Andalusia» Carmona
21 April 2011 by GS arches

We actually started the whole day go first in La Carlota. The troops wanted to do some shopping. By the way a foreign is this concept to Beth and me. Other than buying some gifts souvenir for the grandchildren, we not only to shop. This is an activity that is not on our list of priorities of things.
Anyhooooo…. Beth and I went to a previous stop for a good breakfast at the coffee shop that we had discovered. I enjoyed the newspaper read some eggs, Taters and Ham with a good cup of coffee. By the way, the Spanish potato food are fools. I thought the Irish could scarf the potatoes, but the Spaniards could be sure that you a run for their money in this Department. Our friend Jill observed that they not think that they have the capability, all chips or potatoes to eat for some time. I second the feeling; I think I'll give up potatoes as a kind of post Lenten rose victims.
The big news in the newspaper was Spain's great victory (football, natch) of the Czech team, the continuing poor economic news, etc., etc.. We put then out to explore the local neighborhood. The local people were out and about shopping Saturday morning. This is a very neat and clean town. I don't think that some of importance here to see, but I which relaxes back liked charm of the place laid.
We gathered all, and then on the way for Carmona. We discovered this city on the way to Seville. The city is built on a very high imposing bluff. It is an impressive gate in the city can be seen from the highway. Its narrow streets, white-washed buildings, cobbled streets all to contribute, the classic "White village of Andalucía" look like. I think that you very much this place; I know that we did.
We started with the Puerta de Sevilla Alcázar (Fortress). This building has remains which dates back towers and ramparts 8th BC. Later the Carthaginians improves and strengthens this early fortress. Later came the Romans and the goals that I show you in the pictures is added. Later the Moors added to and improved the place, like the subsequent Catholic royalty after the reconquest. In the course of time it fell into oblivion and the Alcázar was restored in 1975.
As you can see in the map there are some things in the see city. The local tourist Council did a good job mark a route sightseeing by unobtrusive numbered marks embedded in the cobbled streets done. I thought it was very clever. Would be the only thing that would have made it even more memorable, we previously had arrived. Most of the buildings were due to the it will be closed Saturday. However, managed to get to most of the sights on the map listed and the day was, Yes, you guessed it, a beautiful day.
I was supposed to visit this city I would it again to make otherwise. First of all, I would come earlier in the day. Secondly, I would do a tapas crawl here instead of Córdoba. The Taperias we saw looked much more local neighborhood hangout type places. In fact, towards the end we stopped hike at this small corner place for a snack. It was a very charming location and the people, who were very friendly the place. She informed us that the grill was shut down, but that she could together some olives, bread, cheese and ham for us. We moved back to see what else, football on TV and chew on our snacks.
We then went back to Las Pinedas for a dinner that was prepared for us and pack for our journey back to Madrid. Dinner was pork cheeks, salad, Gambas al Ajillo (shrimp in garlicky butter) and a fruit salad. It was a very tasty send for a very pleasant stay in the House.
